GERHARD SMIT is a Director, Conveyancer and Notary Public in the firm's Property Law Department. He enjoys the unique challenges posed by Conveyancing and Commercial transactions. Gerhard also specializes in Labour Law and acts as Legal Counsel for employers and employees; he is involved in mediations and arbitrations and often chairs disciplinary investigations and enquiries.  With more than 24 years of comprehensive legal experience, Gerhard is truly a seasoned practitioner who offers his clients exceptional service, support, and confidence with his guidance and legal expertise.

Gerhard believes strongly that the legal profession has a duty to be actively involved in the community which they serve.

He started out his own law career by doing Community Service in Pro Bono practice with the Legal Aid Board in Stellenbosch.  He actively contributes his time and guidance to the schools his children attend.  He is the former Chair of the Board of the Somerset House Prep School and the former Chair of the Rhenish Girls High School Governing Body. It is in these environments where, with his many years of intimate involvement with educational institutions, he strives to make a difference.

Gerhard is a member of the local Run-Walk For Life Club and an avid Fly- and Saltwater fisherman.  Gerhard endeavours to balance his busy legal practise and pursuits of service with spending as much quality time with this family as possible and chasing that elusive fish of a lifetime.
